For one more year Andorra is celebrating the European days of heritage and the international photographic experience of monuments, two projects directed to deepening the discovery and awareness of our heritage among younger generations.
The Photographic Experience began in 1996. This year we are celebrating the 13th event, with the collaboration of the Government of Catalonia’s Monuments Management Office and the Council of Europe. Andorra has taken part every year and in each event has presented a different theme, within the conceptual scope of heritage, for discovery and photography, and in each event we have also been able to meet the challenge of teaching new generations about the meaning of heritage.
This year’s proposal is concerned with the diversity of heritage in Andorra. By nature, human societies are diverse, a fact which enriches them. Different geographical areas, different climates and different histories have made our planet multicultural. In recent years, technology has made a relationship between cultures easier, but this has not necessarily meant an increase in our understanding of one another and in cooperation between peoples. For this reason, this year’s EFIM event will be a way of learning to observe the cultural differences and similarities in our society.
With the theme of diversity in Andorra we shall find different ways of looking at our heritage, we shall examine the country’s outstanding monuments and heritage items in their setting, we shall identify diversity in the cultural evidences of then and now, we shall perceive and understand the changes in Andorran society and ways of life, and we shall encourage at the same time a respect and curiosity about the local heritage. This set of values must teach us to understand and value diversity as a real and intrinsic element in our culture, all this seen through the photographic lens of our adolescents.
We invite you to search out our diversity, with the awareness that from diversity, often, emerges convergence.
