Participating Countries

Cypriot youth, up to the age of 21, for the eighth consecutive year, have captured through their youthful glimpse their country’s cultural heritage. Through the 14th International Heritage Photographic Experience the young people, mainly school children, had the opportunity to explore the cultural heritage as well as the cultural landscape of Cyprus and to present and promote it to the millions of people all over Europe, whose countries also participate in the Experience. In the Contest, organized in Cyprus in the framework of the European Heritage Days 2009, by the Department of Town Planning and Housing with the co-operation of the Cyprus Youth Board, the Federation of Environmental and Ecological Associations and under the guidance of the Cyprus Photographic Association, a large number of young persons, frm all over the island, participated. The theme of the contest is the architectural heritage as we inherited it fom the past and that consists part of today’s built environment as well as the cultural landscape, resulting fom the harmonious coexistence of man and nature over the centuries. The pictures were submitted in relevant two theme categories. A jury composed of members of the Cyprus Photographic Association and representatives of the National Committee for the European Heritage Days, selected six winning entries, with criteria that included the subject, the technical quality, and the artistic expression. In these pictures the richness of the anonymous architectural expression and the harmony of the built and natural environment are presented.
