Latvia is very proud that the participation in the International
Heritage Photographic Experience has become a tradition in
Latvia. We have recognized that the number of participants,
age interval and the artistic quality of submitted photographies
is growing. We are aware that this competition is a possibility
to encourage children and young people to explore cultural
heritage around them through photo lens and find new,
previously unnoticed values. Children and young people is the
most appropriate audience to involve and awake interest in
heritage preservation thus facilitating common responsibility
for sites and things that previous generations have handed over
to us for careful use and that we have no rights to destroy. By
encouraging children to pay attention to cultural heritage, we
address also their parents.
With great pride we send the prize winning works of Latvian
national competition: daži church, picture taken by 13 years
old Marija Katrina Dambe and the Old shoe factory in Liepāja,
picture taken by 18 years old Annija Bitere. These works resemble
classical and unorthodox interpretation of cultural heritage,
thus approving the possibility of qualitative coexistance of the
old and new.
The jury of the national competition have come to a conclusion
that in spite of information richness, new technologies, presence
of television and internet, young people still consider as very
important the values created in the past, quality of human
living space, creative spirti and positive attitude to life. |
