Since 2006, the Principality of Liechtenstein is taking part in
the “International Heritage Photographic Experience”. After
certain start-up difficulties and a relatively modest number
of participants in the first year, this competition, under the
patronage of the Council of Europe, attracted great interest in
the following two years. The number of participants from about
55 countries in and outside Europe has steadily increased.
In Liechtenstein, however, it has regretfully been noted that
interest in the competition is declining again. The organizers
of the fourth national qualifying contest were sent pictorial
material by only ten young people. As a consequence, the
national jury of the qualifying contests will be obliged in future
to require a minimum number of 20 participants in order to
justify the necessary outlay and the quality of the event.
Despite this, the organizers are very happy to accept the 12
photos submitted, even if the quality is more modest than in
previous years. Under the motto “Seeking old buildings!”, the
young people have again tried to capture unusual impressions
of historic structures and places with their cameras. The two
winning photos show subjects in the municipality of Eschen,
the venerable old shed of «Widum» (1754) and a splendid and
colourful house.
Next year’s competition in 2010 will feature “Witnesses of the
Middle Ages”. With this subject, we hope to attract more interest
and a larger participation in this international photographic
competition for young people. |
