The celebration of European heritage days is traditionally
opened by the international Experience exhibition on
September in Lithuania. On this occasion, the Department
of Cultural Heritage invites guests and local people to „Create
history together“ this year. It means to make a creative and
interpretative movement to the past, present and, inevitably,
future. The honorable jury selected two photographs – Inside
the Church of Barbora Žagarietė (by Jūratė Kriščiūnaitė, 16)
and Old Cemetery of Tauragė near Orthodox Church (by Tomas
Stalauskas, 18), which represent long, multinational and
multicultural history of Lithuanian heritage. For the first time
the name Lithuania was mentioned in 1009, so we have a
great commemoration this year! It is a good opportunity to
present understanding, that cultural heritage was build not
only by local masters, but also by the most skilful masters f rom
the whole Europe. These two photographs are a very small
part of common heritage, which we are sending to you back
as a message. The message of togetherness and experience of
European-Lithuanian heritage.
At last, I would like to express sincere welcome to the European
Capital of Culture 2009 – multicultural, mysterious and
hospitable Vilnius!
