Participating Countries

This year the International Heritage Photographic Experience is being organised for the fourteenth time. A project which was born in our country, and which is now coordinated by the Museum of the History of Catalonia, has become established as one of the most important international heritage-related educational activities. Last year’s award of the EU’s Europa Nostra Cultural Heritage medal is a proof of this. Another is the constant increase in the number of countries taking part, which this year has reached 59, spread over four continents. In Catalonia, a total of 2,200 school students have taken part in the Experience. We feel sure that, above and beyond their legitimate desire to win a prize, this activity will have helped our students to know and appreciate our country and its heritage better. Photography, today’s art of observation and expression, proves in this case to be a highly suitable and attractive medium. The quality of the results, as you can see, is very high. Furthermore, we feel that the enjoyment of taking them must have been correspondingly great. Once again, as in other years, I would like to thank the Directorate General for the Cultural Heritage of the Catalan Ministry of Culture and the Media for the confidence they have placed in us, as well as the Secretariat General for Youth, the Catalan Ministry of Education and our sponsors Arkofoto S.A. – Starblitz for their active support. To conclude, I do hope you will take pleasure frm the pictures and, to the extent that that is possible, frm the original scenes—as much as or more than those who actually took part in this Experience.
