The Scottish Civic Trust and Historic Scotland are delighted to present the two winning entries of
our PhotoArch Competition. Rebecca Fyfe, (10) from the Chapel of Garioch School, Aberdeenshire
photographed an atmospheric ruin called ‘Dunny Deer’ and Aurelia Houbert, (7) from St George’s
School for Girls, Edinburgh photographed one of her friends playing ‘hide and seek’ around their school
buildings.
Young people throughout Scotland took part in the competition, with over 470 entries submitted by
schools in locations ranging from city centres to remote islands. Subject matter varied enormously too,
from busy cityscapes to remote ruins and from grand monuments to buildings that are passed every
day.
PhotoArch is much more than a competition. It gives young people the chance to get out into cities,
towns and countryside and explore their local heritage in a fun and creative way. Children who have
positive associations with their local environment are more likely to want to look after it in the future,
which is why the Scottish Civic Trust feels PhotoArch is so important.
All entries can be seen in an online gallery at www.photoarch.org.uk |
