Once again young people demonstrate their ability to cast a
perceptive eye on their daily environment, thereby revealing
monuments to us which somehow may have escaped our
attention so far. The ordinary object, such as a village road,
a humble cottage, a cross or an isolated chapel often pass
unnoticed because of daily routine. They raise our awareness
when they are about to disappear, often giving way to what
we call ‘progress’.
The EPIM has some major merit in stimulating this awareness
for heritage in general, both in young people participating in
the EPIM and in those who are invited to discover the results
of their curiosity and imagination. Things which at a first glance
may seem too commonplace and ordinary become an object
of esthetic and intellectual perception. Adult spectators must
admit that the coming generation vindicates and cherishes
views and values that are essential to our common heritage.
A warm ‘thank you’ is due to all of those who contributed to
the success of this annual experience, both as participants and
organizers. |
