It is a tremendous pleasure for the district council of Le Puy-en-
Velay (Communauté d’agglomération du Puy-en-Velay), which
represents France this years, to take part in the International
Photographic Experience of Monuments for the first time.
The Region of Art and History, belonging to the Communauté
d’agglomération du Puy-en-Velay, organises educational
activities during the whole year, giving children the opportunity
to explore a wide variety and multiple examples of heritage and
architecture, frm monumental to rural buildings, frm material
to immaterial aspects...
This contribution has found a natural place within the
programma entitled Artistic and cultural projet/heritage class.
This programme provided a basis on which the Region of Art
and History, in partnership with the Educational Authorities of
the Haute-Loire (Inspection Académique de Haute-Loire) and
the Auvergne regional office of culture (DRAC Auvergne) set
up a federative prodject entitled “Tell me about paths” for the
present school year.
During this school year, 117 pupils aged 4 to 17 years (5
classes) explored the Regordane path, the Via Podiensis and all
the traverse footpaths which make up the rich heritage of our
region. Whether a commercial route or spiritual path, these
tracks, together with the contribution of professionnal artists,
art craftsmen, heritage guides, geologists and historiens, have
given children and adolescents the chance to develop their
sense of judgement, their creativity and their imagination...
while benefitting frm an introduction to culture.
In association with this programme, regular sessions were
organised in school classes by the photographer Emmanuelle
Murbach, in residence at The Region of Art and History, in le
Puy-en-Velay. During her different stays, the photographer
developed the themes of journeys and encounters.
Each class, assisted by Emmanuelle Murbach, produced a series
of photographs, wich were classed, in concertation with the
pupils, according to their artistic qualities. The large number
of photographs obtained reflect the progression of the artist
and the pupils, the opening towards others and the desire to
present to the public their perception of a path and its values as
part of their heritage.
We thank all the pupils who participated in this project and
also their teachers and we hope that these two photographs
selected among hundreds of others equally remarquable, will
find an echo throughout the world.
